Shillong: Meghalaya Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui officially opened the renovated SPS Tynrai Football Arena at Shillong Public School in Laitumkhrah on May 14. Developed in collaboration with Tynrai Academy, the upgraded facility was completed in just three months following a partnership agreement between the state's Education and Sports departments signed in February.

During the inauguration ceremony, Minister Rymbui emphasized the importance of integrating sports with academic pursuits to foster discipline, confidence, and character development. He encouraged students to maintain focus on their objectives and underscored the government's commitment to supporting athletic excellence. Highlighting career prospects, the minister noted that the state government provides guaranteed job opportunities to athletes who achieve success at prestigious events like the Olympics, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games.

Rymbui cited Asian Games competitor Matsiewdor War as a key role model for local students, expressing confidence that Meghalaya possesses the talent to mirror the sporting success of neighboring states like Manipur. He also urged local youth to recognize the diverse employment sectors available within the state, noting that the consistent influx of workers from outside the region underscores the abundance of current job opportunities.

Banteilang Kharshandi, who also addressed the attendees, expressed optimism that this project would serve as a model for future infrastructure developments in schools across other districts to bolster the region's sporting culture. The event concluded with a friendly football match held between students of Shillong Public School and officials from the Directorate of School Education and Literacy.
