Meghalaya Cricket Association President Addresses Administrative Standoff

Shillong: Meghalaya Cricket Association President James P.K. Sangma recently addressed the ongoing administrative deadlock affecting the state body. While acknowledging the current impasse, Sangma dismissed concerns over internal divisions between himself and Honorary Secretary Rayonald Kharkamni, framing the friction as a normal part of organizational growth. He stated, "I think dissent and such differences are healthy for any organisation. It should never be completely one-sided."

The internal conflict has created significant operational challenges for the association. Disputes over signatory authorizations have hindered bank account operations, resulting in a six-month delay in salary payments for support staff. The standoff has also stalled the release of grants for district associations, raising fears that the state may struggle to prepare for upcoming Board of Control for Cricket in India domestic tournaments.

Sangma emphasized that these debates should ultimately lead to a consensus that benefits players and the broader cricketing community. He maintained that the current exchanges are part of a process intended to strengthen the association in the long term.

The president also addressed separate allegations of sexual harassment involving a coach and a support staff member from the women's cricket program. While he refrained from discussing details due to an ongoing investigation by the Meghalaya State Commission for Women, he insisted that the organization maintains zero tolerance for misconduct. He noted that the public message must be clear that those found guilty should face the strictest action.
