Kohima: Dimapur apex bodies sat down with non-Naga civil society organizations at Hotel Saramati on Friday. The Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen's Federation, the Gaon Bura Union Dimapur Sadar, and the Dimapur District Gaon Bura Association led the talks. They aimed to address the needs of a city where many diverse communities run businesses under local guardianship.
The agenda covered the Inner Line Permit, indigenity, and how a floating population strains city services. Leaders also examined the burden of monetary collections by various unions on residents and local businesses. They want more regulation and transparency to fix these civic processes. The joint leadership stated, "The consultative meeting was an important step towards strengthening cooperation between Dimapur’s traditional apex bodies and the non-Naga communities."
Attendees included representatives from the Bihari, Bhojpuri, Marwari, Jain, Agarwal, Gorkha, Oswal, Bengali, Sikh, Telugu, Meitei, Oria, and Brahman Samaj groups. The Muslim Council Dimapur and the Tibetan Welfare Dimapur also took part. The session ended with a commitment to keep talking and find practical fixes for everyone living in the city.
