Community groups demand justice after child assault in Medziphema

Kohima: The Medziphema Town Students’ Union and the Chakhroma Public Organisation Medziphema circle are demanding a fast, fair trial. They want justice for a 10-year-old girl allegedly attacked in her own home. The accused is Paominlun Gangte. He is a retired soldier living in Medziphema.

Police arrested Gangte the same day the crime happened. Officers booked him under the POCSO Act. He remains in custody while the investigation continues at the Dimapur Women Police Station. The students’ union expects the prosecution to fight any bail request.

Leaders from both groups visited the victim’s family to offer support. They want the government to provide the girl with medical care and counseling immediately. The organizations intend to watch this case closely. They want to ensure the law works without bias.

The Chakhroma Public Organisation blasted the act as a violation of human dignity. They stated, "Justice should be delivered without unnecessary delay." The community now waits for the court to act.
