Shillong: Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya, Revati Mohite Dere, told law students to ditch the books and hit the streets. She spoke at the third Foundation Day of National Law University Meghalaya on July 8. Success takes grit.
Dere, acting as the university's Chancellor, pushed students to intern with public prosecutors and defense lawyers. Get your hands dirty in the district courts. Understand how the justice system actually functions at the grassroots level. "There is no substitute for hard work, perseverance and continuous self-improvement in the legal profession," Dere said.
The event took place at the Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Auditorium. Vice-Chancellor in-charge Kerpa Meida Lyngdoh Nongbri welcomed the guests before the university showed off its latest academic achievements on screen. Dere also spent the morning cutting the ribbon on a new Moot Court Room and planting trees.
Staff rolled out a new Student House System during the event to boost campus life. Registrar Baharul Islam closed the ceremony with a final thank you to the attendees. University brass viewed the visit as a major step toward building a stronger institution.
