Meghalaya Appoints Nodal Officers to Clear Border Transit Standoff

Shillong: Meghalaya police stepped in to break a travel stalemate clogging the border with Assam. The state named official nodal officers to manage the flow of stranded commuters and freight. The Office of the Additional Director General of Police in Shillong issued the order this week. It takes effect immediately.

Deputy Superintendent of Police B. Nongsiej now leads the effort for Meghalaya. He maintains direct lines with district heads and his counterparts across the border. Rajendra Ojah, the Zonal SP for Assam, serves as the primary contact for that state. Police expect these officials to sync operations to keep traffic moving.

Control rooms are now the central hubs for these efforts. Meghalaya Special Branch Control Room will collect data on every vehicle stuck in transit. "The designated officers are required to coordinate with Assam Police and immediately alert the concerned Meghalaya district police chief whenever escorts are needed for vehicles entering Meghalaya from Assam."

Local Superintendents of Police must now request escorts through this new channel. Officers will swap intelligence to clear the backlog. The system stays in place until further notice from command.
