Kohima: The Nagaland State Co-operative Marketing and Consumers Federation, known as MARCOFED, officially rolled out its Nagabazaar mobile app this week. The platform links farmers, self-help groups, and local makers directly to buyers. It marks a push to modernize the federation after years of struggling against private retail chains.
Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio first showed off the app back in January 2026. MARCOFED held back on the full launch to fix their digital infrastructure and ensure the system could handle a public rollout. Managing director R. Bendang Ao explained the core goal of the project. He said, "Nagabazaar was conceived as a comprehensive marketing platform for indigenous products aimed at retaining consumer spending within the state."
The federation aims to fix past issues like poor networking and a lack of skilled workers. By moving to a digital marketplace, they hope to help growers move crops like ginger, turmeric, and black pepper. They also plan to sell local handicrafts through the app. The service is live now on Android and iOS for users in Dimapur and Chümoukedima. The team plans to push the app into other districts soon.
