Imphal: The Manipur State Commission for Women joined forces with the National Commission for Women on Friday to host a legal workshop. Held at the Ima Panthoibi Temple in Kakching, the event drew roughly 200 participants. Local leaders, self-help groups, and residents gathered to learn about constitutional rights and protections against abuse.

State officials mapped out legal remedies for domestic violence, workplace harassment, and human trafficking. W. Phajatombi Devi, the Member Secretary of the MSCW, stressed that the commission exists to protect rights and boost gender equality. She pushed for constant community outreach.

MSCW Chairperson Th. Tiningpham Monsang argued that silence helps nobody. “Legal awareness is, therefore, one of the most effective tools for empowerment,” she said. Many victims simply do not know what protections exist or where to turn for help. She urged the crowd to take this information back to their own homes.

Experts broke down complex statutes during technical sessions. Advocate Ch. Narendra Singh tackled the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act. Advocate Santa Khaidem explained the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act. Meanwhile, other speakers detailed recent shifts in criminal law and the POSH Act. The day wrapped up with an open question period to ensure every participant left with clear answers.
