Imphal: Themsorin Hannah Ningshen, a Tangkhul violinist and educator from Manipur, is strengthening the presence of Western classical music in Northeast India. A native of Phungyar Village in Ukhrul District, Ningshen has spent over fifteen years mastering the violin, piano, and guitar. She holds a Grade 8 Certification from Trinity College London and advanced music theory credentials from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

In May 2026, Ningshen represented Manipur at the South Asian Symphony Foundation Youth Workshop and Concert in Bengaluru. During this intensive residency, she collaborated with young musicians from across South Asia under the mentorship of members from the South Asian Symphony Orchestra. The program emphasized professional orchestral standards, ensemble discipline, and artistic leadership.

The residency culminated in a grand concert at the KE Auditorium at Christ University. The ensemble performed classical masterpieces, including Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture and Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, to a standing ovation. A performance of the Tamil song Dingiri Dingale added a cultural highlight to the event. Beyond her musical pursuits, Ningshen holds degrees in Sociology and Political Science, reflecting her commitment to both the arts and academic excellence.
