Imphal: The Manipur government will officially launch the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission, known as VB-GRAM G, across the state on July 1, 2026. This transition replaces the existing Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act with a new framework designed to offer 125 days of wage employment every year to rural households.
All 16 districts in Manipur will participate in the rollout. The initiative follows a cabinet decision made on June 15, 2026, led by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh. The move aligns the state with a broader national transition to rebrand the employment scheme, which is inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's long-term vision for the country.
During the cabinet meeting, officials discussed various administrative strategies to improve public service delivery. Chief Minister Khemchand Singh highlighted the government's priorities in a social media update, stating, "Our Government remains committed to ensuring effective, transparent, and people-centric governance for the welfare and development of Manipur."
Key state ministers attended the meeting to finalize the shift. Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam and Art and Culture Minister Khuraijam Loken were present in person, while Deputy Chief Ministers Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho participated virtually. This policy change reflects the state's ongoing efforts to secure livelihoods and promote inclusive growth in rural areas.
