Imphal: The Manipur Students Federation slammed the state government Tuesday for stalling the operation of 19 schools upgraded back in 2021. Five years later, these institutions remain shells of classrooms without the staff or tools to function. The federation claims the government upgrades exist only on paper.
Many schools lack regular principals. They rely on lower-level headmasters to manage operations instead. The MSF made it clear they respect the current staff but insist on proper administration. "If no meaningful changes accompany the upgradation, merely changing the name of a high school to a higher secondary school serves little purpose," the group stated.
Trouble extends to the Council of Higher Secondary Education. The federation flagged the appointment of a teacher from Sriram Higher Secondary School to a top exam controller post while the same individual allegedly keeps principal duties. They called the move inappropriate.
Education officials issued an order on February 16, 2026, to assign subject-specific teachers to these sites. Nothing changed. The federation wants the government to hire actual lecturers rather than shuffling around teachers from primary levels. They are demanding the state finish the job and open these schools for students immediately.
