Manipur State Employees Ramp Up Protests on Final Day of Leave Strike

Imphal: Manipur government employees ramped up their agitation today as a mass casual leave strike hit its final day. Protests and sit-ins paralyzed offices across the state. The movement includes teachers, nurses, pensioners, and various government staff.

These groups demand the government increase the retirement age to 62 and release Dearness Allowance payments to match central levels. They also want the state to form a new Pay Commission, bring back the Old Pension Scheme, and stop hiring contract workers for permanent roles. They are finished with the waiting game.

Solidarity rallies broke out from Imphal to remote districts. Staff at JNIMS staged a demonstration in front of the Medical Superintendent office. Sanjarani Loukrakpam of the Trained Nurses Association of India urged officials to act now. She stated, "the issues directly affect the welfare, dignity and financial security of thousands of government employees and pensioners."

Pensioners rallied at Singjamei Chingamakhong to push for faster decision-making. Meanwhile, medical staff in Senapati, Kangpokpi, and Ukhrul held similar protests. Employees from the Sericulture Department and local schools also joined the walkout to send a clear message to state leadership.
