Imphal: Manipur security forces clamped down on insurgents and drug runners during two days of heavy operations. Police set up 115 checkpoints across the state to tighten control. They want to choke off illegal weapon shipments and stop narcotics flow. These efforts also kept supply lines moving, as forces escorted 531 vehicles along National Highway-37.

Officers intercepted a car in the Porompat area on July 1. They found 168 soap cases filled with heroin weighing two kilograms. Police arrested the two men inside, identified as 21-year-old Bigyan Baniya and 27-year-old Manoj Chettry. The pair now faces charges for moving the drugs.

Counter-insurgency teams also hauled in two suspected members of the People’s Liberation Army. Officials grabbed Oinam Kalajit, 55, in Taobungkhok on July 1. Police stated he was involved in the illegal transportation of arms and ammunition. Another man, 26-year-old Sairem Bolex Singh, landed in cuffs on June 30 near Sagoltongba Makha Leikai for alleged extortion. Patrols continue across both hill and valley districts to flush out other militant threats.
