Imphal: Security forces picked up four men in separate raids across Manipur this weekend. Police arrested three militants for running extortion rackets in Imphal East district, while a fourth man landed in custody after agents found him packing high-powered weapons. The crackdown comes as authorities tighten their grip on the region.

Officers nabbed Salam Bijanda Singh, a 37-year-old operative for the United People’s Party of Kangleipak, near a hospital on Saturday. Officials confirmed his arrest in a statement, noting, "On 11.07.2026, security forces arrested an active cadre of UPPK, one Salam Bijanda Singh alias Deepak alias Major (37) of Arong Nongmaikhong Mayai Leikai, Kakching district, a/p Kakwa Liwa Lambi, Maibam Leikai, Imphal West district from the proximity of Karkinos Hospital."

Two other men linked to the Kangleipak Communist Party fell during the same sweep. Security teams found one suspect in Wangkhei Ayangpalli and the other in Khurai Nandeibam Leikai. By Sunday, the hunt moved to Thoubal district.

Police detained 46-year-old Chagisongtanbou Nkhamnamai on Yairipok Pechi Road. He had a self-loading rifle, one magazine, and ten rounds of ammunition in his gear. Soldiers and police are now running 113 checkpoints across the hill and valley districts to keep the peace.
