Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh kicked off a three-day workshop in Imphal this week to map out the state's path for the National Education Policy 2020. He pushed for instruction in a child's mother tongue up to Class V. He argued this approach clears the way for more effective learning. The event took place at the City Convention Centre and was hosted by Vidya Bharati Shiksha Vikash Samiti.
The Chief Minister linked these reforms to the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047. He noted that education reform demands teamwork between the state, employees, and the public. During his speech, he said, "The National Education Policy 2020 provides a roadmap for achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047."
Unrest in the state forced officials to adjust the academic calendar. The summer break was slashed from three weeks to one after the Tronglaobi incident stalled government offices and schools for nearly a month. To make up for the lost time, government departments must now work on Saturdays. The Chief Minister expects to restore the holiday once the backlog clears.
Experts at the meeting turned their focus to career readiness. Professor Ganga Prasad Prasain called for vocational training starting in Class VI to boost self-employment prospects. Chief Secretary Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel echoed this, reminding the room that teachers remain the primary force behind national progress. Several high-ranking officials and academic leaders attended the session to discuss the challenges of these new classroom standards.
