Manipur Power Job Seekers Threaten Protests After Recruitment Cancellation

Imphal: Job seekers left hanging for six years are drawing a line in the sand. Candidates from the 2019 Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited and Manipur State Power Company Limited exams demand the government dump its cancellation order and release their results by June 30. They want action now.

The ordeal started back in 2019 when officials posted 907 vacancies. The state held tests in January 2020, but the results never dropped. Despite years of empty promises from multiple ministers and high-ranking officials, the process stayed locked in bureaucratic purgatory. In 2023, the Power Minister claimed the Department of Personnel gave the green light, promising a quick release.

The situation turned ugly after President’s Rule took hold in Manipur. On September 2, 2025, the Governor scrapped the entire process. The candidates took the fight to the Manipur High Court and secured a stay on that order. They maintain the process was legitimate and finished. "The recruitment process had already been completed and had received clearance from the Department of Personnel, making its cancellation unjustified," the group stated.

These workers are now calling on Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand to step in and fix the mess. If officials ignore the June 30 deadline, the group plans to shut down the state. They will launch a wave of protests on July 1, including hunger strikes, sit-ins, and total bandhs.
