Manipur Police Lead 1,650 Runners in Anti-Drug Rally

Imphal: Nearly 1,650 people flooded the streets of Imphal on Friday for a 10-kilometre run. The event marked the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. It sent a clear message to the state. Manipur Police organized the race to push for a drug-free society.

The course started at the Kangla Western Gate. It stretched to Iroisemba Chingjin before heading back to the start. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and Home Minister Konthoujam Govindas flagged off the event. Other top officials joined the crowd, including Chief Secretary Puneet Goel and Director General of Police Mukesh Singh.

The high turnout signaled strong public backing for the ongoing fight against narcotics. DGP Mukesh Singh addressed the crowd once the race finished. He told reporters, "eliminating the menace of drugs requires cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the public."

State leaders used the social media platform X to reaffirm their commitment to a cleaner Manipur. Police officials praised the diverse group of residents who showed up to run. The event wrapped up without incident as organizers called for continued public vigilance against substance abuse.
