Imphal: Manipur Police arrested Heisnam Jiban Singh, 51, on May 26 in the Lamlong area for his alleged involvement in extortion activities for the banned UNLF (P) militant group. Officers seized a mobile phone from the suspect, who is a resident of Thanga Heisnam Leikai and had been staying at the Checkon Tribal Market.

During subsequent interrogation, Singh provided information that led security forces to a location in Langol. There, police recovered 18 wooden weaving machines suspected of being obtained through extortion. Officers also seized a 9 mm pistol along with a magazine and three live rounds of ammunition.

In a separate enforcement action the same day, police targeted illegal liquor distribution in the Tengnoupal district. The search yielded a significant haul of alcohol, including 488 small bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor, 11 large bottles of McDowell's, and 397 litres of DIC liquor. Investigations into both criminal cases remain ongoing.
