Imphal: Manipur Police just flipped the switch on an upgraded Emergency Response Support System. The move follows direct orders from the Supreme Court of India. Citizens now dial 112 to reach police, fire crews, ambulances, and helplines for women and children. It is one number for every crisis.
Deputy Inspector General of Police M. Pradip Singh confirmed the state has integrated multiple services into a single hub. Calls now route through the State Emergency Response Centre. Trained staff there coordinate the boots on the ground. The goal is simple: shave seconds off response times during fires, crimes, or medical emergencies.
The system relies on modern tech to get help moving. It features GPS location tracking and links to vehicle panic buttons. These tools allow dispatchers to send the closest responders to the scene. The police said the current network is active, but they want more. "Efforts are underway to further expand and strengthen the network," according to the official statement.
State officials have already asked the Ministry of Home Affairs to approve 104 new dedicated emergency vehicles. These trucks would widen the net for on-ground response across Manipur. Until then, police urge everyone to memorize 112 as the primary line for any emergency.
