Imphal: A delegation of Naga legislators, led by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, met with United Naga Council (UNC) officials in Senapati on Monday. The meeting focused on resolving the ongoing crisis triggered by the abduction and killing of Naga civilians, aiming to secure an honourable funeral for the victims whose bodies remain unclaimed.

The UNC has refused to accept the bodies until the government fulfills several key demands. These include the termination of the Suspension of Operations agreement with Kuki militant groups and the arrest of individuals involved in the abduction of 18 Naga civilians from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13, 2026. The council also seeks the declaration of the Kuki National Front-President as a terrorist organization and the removal of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, citing allegations regarding her husband’s involvement with the militant group.

Addressing the press, Dikho emphasized the government's commitment to resolving the impasse. "We came here to understand the UNC’s demand put forward to the Government of Manipur to settle the issue," he stated. He added that both the National Investigation Agency and the state government have intensified efforts to address the situation. Officials hope this dialogue will lead to a resolution that addresses the community's grievances and allows the families to proceed with burial rites.
