Manipur mourns loss of first female IFS officer Primrose Raikhan

Guwahati: Primrose Raikhan died on the evening of June 25. She was the first woman from Manipur to join the Indian Foreign Service. Her career took her to Portugal, where she served as India's ambassador. She was a trailblazer. People across the state are mourning her loss.

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh paid tribute to her on X. He highlighted her roots in Talui village, located in the Ukhrul district. He praised her for a lifetime of work that set a high bar for others. "On behalf of the people of Manipur, I extend my heartfelt condolences to her bereaved family and loved ones. May her noble soul rest in eternal peace. Om Shanti," the Chief Minister said.

Public service ran in her family. Her father was Lt. Mazachang Raikhan. He was the first Indian Railway Service officer from the state. Later, he served as the Chairman of the Manipur Public Service Commission. Raikhan followed his lead into a distinguished career. Her death concludes a long, respected chapter in the history of Indian diplomacy.
