Imphal: The Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) has expressed deep sorrow following the passing of Khangembam Kuleswar Singh. As a prominent figure in the state, he served as the Chairman of Film Forum Manipur and held a seat on the executive board of the MSFDS, leaving behind a legacy that the organization describes as a significant loss for the local media and cinematic community.
Before his transition into film administration, Singh built a distinguished career in journalism. He began as a photojournalist for the news magazine Resistance, working with figures like Yambem Laba and Tarun Thanoujam. He later pioneered cable television in Manipur, eventually serving as the president of the cable network IS TV.
Singh remained deeply passionate about the arts throughout his life. Elected as the Chairman of Film Forum Manipur at age 68, he focused on strengthening the industry through initiatives like government grant advocacy and collaborations with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to support short films. Colleagues remember him for his humility and commitment to cultural development.
To honor his contributions, members of the film fraternity held a candlelight memorial service. Singh is survived by his wife and son.
