Imphal: Manipur observed World Environment Day on Friday by launching the nationwide Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0 movement alongside extensive tree planting drives and cleanliness initiatives. Held under the theme Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future, the event engaged government departments, schools, security forces, and local organizations in a unified effort to promote climate conservation across the state.
During the primary state function at the City Convention Centre in Imphal, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam urged citizens to move beyond simple awareness and adopt sustainable habits. He stated, "Nature remains humanity’s greatest teacher and provider, but is increasingly under stress due to unsustainable human activities."
Officials addressed the severe impact of erratic weather patterns and biodiversity loss currently affecting the region. Principal Secretary Arun Kumar Sinha outlined various ongoing government projects, such as river rejuvenation, wetland protection, and waste management. To support these goals, authorities handed over new facilities, including a plastic bottle bank and a baling machine, to assist with local waste disposal efforts.
