Manipur Marks International Day of Yoga with Statewide Events

Imphal: Manipur observed the 12th International Day of Yoga on Sunday, bringing together officials, security forces, students, and residents for statewide events centered on the theme Yoga for Healthy Ageing. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla led the primary state-level celebration at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium in Imphal. Over 1,000 attendees gathered to watch a live address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi while participating in a mass yoga session.

During the event, the Governor emphasized that incorporating these practices into daily routines supports better physical fitness, emotional balance, and mental well-being. The Governor also hosted a separate session at Raj Bhavan alongside the First Lady and staff members. At the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Director Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma encouraged the public to embrace the practice to mitigate lifestyle diseases, noting that it is an "evidence-based, cost-effective and inclusive practice that promotes healthy ageing and overall wellness."

Security personnel also took part in the observance, as the 86 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force held sessions at its headquarters and various company locations to boost physical and mental resilience. In Chandel district, the Central Bureau of Communication conducted an outreach program at Chandropoto Village that included practical demonstrations and a quiz competition.

Environmental initiatives played a significant role in the commemorations. Residents and conservation groups gathered along the Nambul River in Imphal West for sessions titled Ghat Par Yoga and Meditation, promoting the message of Clean Mind, Clean Water. These programs were supported by the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change. Additionally, local yoga enthusiasts joined gatherings at community halls across the region to celebrate the global event.
