Imphal: Tamenglong district launched Van Mahotsav Week on July 1 with a massive tree planting drive. The event supports the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0 campaign. Locals are planting trees to mark the festival of forests. The week-long effort runs until July 7.

Amit Kaler, the Divisional Forest Officer, pushed for youth involvement in the movement. He warned that frequent floods and landslides stem directly from clearing forests. He encouraged every citizen to plant at least one tree. During the kickoff, Kaler said, "The Forest Department would provide saplings and necessary support to encourage afforestation across the district."

Deputy Commissioner Dr. L. Angshim Dangshawa pointed to the thinning soil stability in the region. While the nation aims for 33 percent forest cover, current levels sit at 25 percent. He pressed for more school programs, including painting and essay contests, to teach conservation. The launch included staff from the 6th Assam Rifles, local students, and district officials who gathered to plant trees together.
