Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh launched the Kharif 2026 Fertilizer Distribution Programme in Imphal this week. The initiative introduces the organic fertilizer Oorja, which the state is providing at a subsidized rate of 250 rupees per bag, significantly lower than the standard market price of 480 rupees.
More than 3.3 lakh farmers are expected to benefit from the program, which utilizes 187 distribution centers throughout the state. To ensure transparency and combat previous reports of local shortages, the government has mandated Aadhaar-based verification. Fertilizers will be allocated strictly based on Aadhaar cards, farmer identity cards, and specific agricultural area requirements.
Addressing the attendees, the Chief Minister confirmed that the state currently holds a stock of nearly two lakh bags of urea. He stated, "The state currently has a stock of nearly two lakh bags of urea and assured farmers that there is no shortage of fertilisers." He added that distribution will strictly follow actual requirements after officials verify the necessary documentation.
The government aims to shift toward sustainable agriculture by reducing reliance on chemical products. Officials from the Agriculture Department have been instructed to monitor distribution closely, and farmers are encouraged to report any supply issues directly to the Directorate of Agriculture.
