Agartala: Governor N Indrasena Reddy wants a state-wide crackdown on drugs. He called on Tripura residents to join the Nasha Mukt Yuva Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan on Sunday. The Governor spoke from Tripura University during a virtual launch event led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. MY Bharat and the university co-hosted the event.
Reddy described the campaign as a people's movement rather than just another government project. He pushed parents to warn their kids about addiction risks. He told teachers to guide students. He urged community leaders to set an example. Young people must reject drugs and support their peers, the Governor said.
The Governor noted that the government has targeted drug addiction since 2014. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment runs the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction. This plan covers prevention, public awareness, counseling, treatment, and rehab. The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan launched on August 15, 2020. It started in 272 districts but now covers every district in India.
The campaign operates on three pillars. It hits supply chains through the Narcotics Control Bureau. It spreads awareness via the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It handles treatment through the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Reddy pointed to the state border as a major risk factor. "Drug trafficking networks were targeting young people, affecting their health, families and society," the Governor said.
Attendees took a pledge for a drug-free India. Officials at the event included Vice-Chancellor Prof Debabrata Das, Special Secretary Tapan Kumar Das, and District Magistrate Dr Vishal Kumar. MY Bharat Director Mehboob Alam Laskar joined faculty and students to mark the start of the drive.
