Imphal: Young leaders took control at Manipur University today. The Manipur Youth Assembly 2026 met at the Senate Hall of the Department of Earth Science to draft the state's future. The Manipur People’s Movement and the Manipur University Students’ Union hosted the event.
Senior advocate Khaidem Mani opened the session. He once led the Manipur Human Rights Commission. Advocate Thangjam Jiban ran the floor as Speaker. The room stayed orderly. Participants followed strict parliamentary rules while debating four key pieces of legislation.
The treasury bench brought four bills to the floor: the Manipur Regional Political Aspiration Unification Bill, the Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms Amendment Bill, the Delimitation Bill, and the Manipur Ethnic Bifurcation Rejection and Integrity Bill, 2026. Members debated the language of each measure at length.
Organizers pushed for a space where the youth could practice governance. The goal is to build constitutional values through informed debate. They confirmed the event was "intended to provide a democratic platform for young people to engage with critical issues affecting Manipur while promoting informed debate, constitutional values, and participatory governance." The House adopted all four bills before the session closed.
