Imphal: Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho launched a new fleet of vehicles on June 15 to enhance solid waste management in the Senapati district. The Autonomous District Council (ADC) secured the vehicles using funding from the 4th State Finance Commission Grants. The initiative is part of a broader financial strategy, with total allocations for waste management under the 15th Finance Commission reaching Rs 2.90 crore.
The newly commissioned fleet includes six tippers and two dumpers. These vehicles will improve collection and disposal operations across the Senapati-Karong, Tadubi, Makhre Padei, Mao-Inu Choro, Purul, and Oinam regions. Local officials confirmed that these assets are essential to the district's ongoing sanitation improvement plans.
The ADC is overseeing several other environmental projects supported by the 15th Finance Commission. Current efforts include building collection and segregation centers at 13 locations, establishing a Material Recovery Facility at the Kathikho Karong site, and setting up plastic bottle banks. The council has also acquired a JCB earthmover to support these site operations.
Reflecting on the importance of the initiative, Deputy CM Losii Dikho signaled the state's commitment to urban cleanliness. During the ceremony, attendees included MLA J. Kumo Sha, Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar S, and ADC Chief Executive Officer Adahrii Maheo, alongside various community leaders and staff members who gathered to mark the milestone.
