Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh officially launched the organic fertilizer Oorja and flagged off distribution trucks for the Kharif 2026 season on Monday. The event, held by the Directorate of Agriculture at Sanjenthong in Imphal, aims to bolster sustainable farming practices across the state.
The new organic fertilizer is being offered to farmers at a subsidized rate of 250 rupees per bag, a significant discount from its 480 rupee market price. During the event, the Chief Minister also inspected a new organic outlet shop established near the venue.
To ensure transparent and fair access to resources, the government has updated its distribution protocols. Supplies are now allocated based on Aadhaar cards, farmer cards, and specific local requirements. Addressing potential supply issues, the Chief Minister confirmed that approximately 200,000 bags of urea are currently in stock. He stated, "There is no shortage of fertilizers in the state at present."
The government has tasked Agriculture Department officials with monitoring distribution across all districts to prevent irregularities. Farmers are encouraged to report any grievances regarding availability directly to the Directorate of Agriculture. These efforts are part of a broader shift toward sustainable agriculture, with the state aiming to expand its organic cultivation footprint by another 4,000 hectares in the coming years, building upon the 4,000 hectares already in production.
