Imphal: The Tribal Research Institute of the Manipur government recently hosted a significant seminar titled Capitalizing Artificial Intelligence for Tribal Development and Efficient Governance. This event, held at the Directorate of Tribal Affairs and Hills Conference Hall, took place as part of the nationwide Janjatiya Garima Utsav initiative, which runs from May 11 to June 7, 2026. The seminar attracted over 150 participants from the Tribal Affairs and Hills Department, Autonomous District Councils, and various allied institutions, joining both in-person and virtually.

During the session, officials explored how integrating Artificial Intelligence can modernize governance by increasing transparency and improving public service delivery in remote hill areas. Additional Chief Secretary Vivek Kumar Dewangan described AI as a force multiplier that can streamline administrative processes and strengthen welfare implementation without replacing human staff. Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen participated virtually, noting that AI tools could prove vital in addressing longstanding developmental challenges in healthcare and education within Manipur's hill districts.

Director of Tribal Affairs and Hills, Rangnamei Rang Peter, emphasized the importance of institutional capacity building to successfully adopt these new technologies. Technical experts from the State e-Governance Mission Team provided practical demonstrations on applying AI to development planning and administrative management. The event concluded with a unified commitment to using accountable AI to ensure that government services efficiently reach the most marginalized and distant communities across the state.
