Imphal: Manipur is moving to a five-day work week. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh confirmed the change starts July 11, 2026. State offices will now run Monday through Friday. Saturdays are officially marked as holidays, though officials can mandate work if necessary.

Staff must log in from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm during summer. Winter hours run until 5:00 pm. This rule covers all state departments, public sector undertakings, and autonomous bodies. Still, the peace remains elusive.

The Manipur Government Services Federation continues an indefinite strike that just hit day nine. The union insists the state ignored their seven-point list of demands. They want the government to raise the retirement age from 60 to 62 years. They also want matching Dearness Allowance rates for all workers. Leaders worry that the new Saturday policy stays too flexible.

The federation claims the government has failed to act. As one representative stated, the union continues its protest because "the state government has not yet addressed its seven-point charter of demands." Workers show no sign of backing down until the state meets their terms.
