Imphal: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla trekked to the remote cliffs of Yangkhullen on Monday. The Zeme Naga village sits deep in the Senapati district. Known as the Heritage Hanging Village, it clings to the mountainside with stone paths and ancient wooden gates.

The Governor brought the First Lady and a team of top district officials along for the visit. They met with locals to hear about long-standing problems. The Zemnui Village Authority handed over a list of demands. They need better security and more teachers at the local residential school.

The villagers want a new police station near the highway. They also asked for an 11-kilometre footpath to connect their homes to the popular Dzuko Valley. This project aims to boost local tourism and protect their unique architecture.

Bhalla promised to look into these requests. He said the state would provide help using current government programs. The Governor told the residents: "Their concerns would be examined and that all possible assistance would be provided."

Yangkhullen remains a rare example of sustainable living. Residents hope for official heritage status soon. This label would secure funds and help keep their centuries-old customs alive.
