Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh authorized the Rikhruri Multipurpose Dam on July 8. The project will bring reliable drinking water to 27 villages across the Senapati district. It targets a long-standing shortage in the region.

The Chief Minister toured the area with Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho and a team of state officials. They inspected a failing potato farm in Mao where low funding choked production for two years. Horticulture Commissioner T.N. Panmei detailed these losses during the visit. Khemchand Singh promised to address these financial hurdles to save the local harvest.

Leaders from the United Naga Council, Mao Council, and local student unions met with the Chief Minister at the Mini Secretariat. They pushed for better trade infrastructure and youth programs. Addressing these demands, the Chief Minister said, "the proposal for a Multipurpose Skill Training, Trade and Youth Activity Centre in Mao would be placed before the upcoming Cabinet meeting."

The government also committed to reviewing land agreements at the potato site. Officials aim to clear production bottlenecks soon. This visit highlights an attempt to stabilize the local economy through targeted infrastructure and agricultural reform.
