Imphal: The Manipur government has pledged to implement timely measures to address environmental and public health concerns surrounding a proposed solid waste management plant in Lamdeng. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh led discussions at the Chief Minister Secretariat on May 23 to resolve ongoing tensions with local residents who fear the project could negatively impact their community.

During the meeting, officials and residents discussed infrastructure development and the necessary safeguards required for the facility. The government confirmed that both parties reached an understanding regarding the plant operations and promised to prioritize ecological safety. The administration emphasized that they remain committed to balancing waste management needs with the well-being of the local population.

Local concerns about pollution and waste handling have been a point of contention in recent months. Government representatives stated they have documented all feedback and will integrate these priorities into the project implementation process. In a separate session, the Chief Minister also met with a delegation from the United Naga Council to review the state's law and order, focusing on ongoing investigations and peace restoration efforts.
