Imphal: The Joint Administrative Council of the All Manipur Trade Unions’ Council and the All Manipur Government Employees’ Organisation is keeping the pressure on. The group rejected the state government’s offer to boost Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief by a mere 3 percent. The strike continues.
JAC President R.K. Basumani Singh confirmed the government’s recent decision to restore Saturday holidays, but dismissed the pay hike as insufficient. While the state plans to lift the allowance from 42 percent to 45 percent starting July 1, 2026, workers want more. Central government employees currently pull in 60 percent, a rate set back on January 1, 2026. The council demands equal pay.
Union leaders submitted a formal representation to the Chief Secretary on July 15, pushing for the full release of pending arrears. They stated, "The government’s announcement was unacceptable." The work stoppage holds steady until the state meets their terms. Members will gather at the JAC office in Babupara on July 22 at 11 a.m. for an emergency meeting to map out the next stage of the agitation.
