Imphal: The Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls began in Manipur's Kangpokpi district on Thursday. Despite the exercise moving forward with significant public turnout at the local community hall, the process faces intense scrutiny from the Kuki Inpi Manipur, the apex organization for Kuki tribes.

The Kuki Inpi Manipur has demanded an immediate halt to the revision, arguing that the current plan fails to account for approximately 59,000 Kuki-Zo people displaced by ethnic violence. The organization stated that the exercise is "unacceptable" under the prevailing circumstances, as many citizens remain unable to return to their original homes to participate in the enrollment process.

Officials initiated the process in Kangpokpi Town to cover 18 localities, with the Kangpokpi Town Committee assisting by managing resident rosters. According to the current schedule, enrollment and verification activities will continue through June 10. Residents from the first three wards participated on the opening day to finalize their electoral details.

The tribal apex body maintains that moving forward without specific provisions for displaced individuals undermines the legitimacy and credibility of the rolls. They have called on the government to establish accessible mechanisms that ensure all affected citizens can exercise their right to vote before the revision process continues.
