Imphal: Manipur officials published the Draft Photo Electoral Rolls for all 60 assembly constituencies on Sunday. The new list includes 19,34,399 voters, covering 92.42 percent of the state. These figures follow an intensive revision project held between May and June.
Chief Electoral Officer Arun Kumar Sinha reported that 1,58,677 people failed to submit the required forms. This group accounts for about 7.5 percent of the previous count. Reasons for missing forms range from permanent relocation and death to duplicate registrations. Authorities flagged over 43,000 deceased individuals and thousands of duplicate entries.
Missing a form does not mean automatic removal. The state must follow specific legal steps before striking anyone from the list. "Nobody can remove anybody from the draft electoral roll unless he has been given an opportunity of hearing. Only after hearing and passing a speaking order can somebody's name be deleted from the draft electoral roll," Sinha stated.
Voters can still file claims or fix errors between July 5 and August 4. Officials will conduct field verifications until September 2. The final roll arrives on September 6. To help voters, the state added 85 new polling stations. This brings the total to 3,041, ensuring no station handles more than 1,200 people.
