Imphal: Manipur authorities slashed the school summer vacation from three weeks to one week. The move aims to recover time lost during recent violence. Officials shut down schools and offices for nearly a month following a deadly bomb attack in the Bishnupur district. That attack in the village of Tronglaobi killed two young children.

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh announced the change Monday. He spoke at a workshop regarding school reforms and the National Education Policy. "Due to the current law-and-order situation in the state, the summer vacation has been reduced from three weeks to one week," Singh said.

The government also ordered state employees to work on Saturdays. This change stays in place until officials clear a massive backlog of pending tasks. Once the work finishes, Saturdays will return to being holidays.

Singh pushed for teaching kids in their mother tongue up to Class V. He believes this helps children grasp concepts faster. The workshop also focused on how to implement the NEP 2020 reforms. Success requires everyone to work together, Singh noted. He wants the state to reach the goals set by the vision for a developed India by 2047.
