Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh toured Senapati district on Wednesday to check on state projects. He brought a high-level delegation, including Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho and several lawmakers, to survey the local situation. Work has stalled.
The Chief Minister inspected a regional potato farm in Mao. Horticulture Commissioner T.N. Panmei reported that the site suffered from two years of budget cuts. Productivity dropped as a result. Khemchand Singh noted the area's climate is ideal for high-yield farming. He promised to modernize the facility to help local growers.
At the ACI Auditorium in Punanamei village, the Chief Minister officially approved the Rikhruri Multipurpose Dam. The project aims to supply drinking water to 27 surrounding villages. He told the crowd, "Committed to modernising the farm to enhance productivity and support our farmers."
The Mao Council and Poumai Naga Union presented memorandums to the Chief Minister. The Mao Students' Union asked for a new youth training and trade center. Khemchand Singh promised to take that request to the state Cabinet. He also met with the United Naga Council at the Mini Secretariat Complex to discuss district-wide issues.
The government remains at a standstill regarding a standing agreement with Mao potato farm landowners. The Chief Minister said he will consult with officials before making a final call. He spent the day meeting civil groups and local residents to address their ongoing grievances.
