Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh emphasized the urgent need to disarm individuals across the state following a meeting with representatives from the Tangkhul Naga community. The delegation, which included Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah, visited the Chief Minister to request the deployment of state police in Sinakeithei village. Residents raised concerns regarding recent attacks in the area, which have been linked to earlier clashes between Kuki and Tangkhul Naga groups.

The village representatives also requested improved security at the local police station and the restoration of administrative services at the sub-divisional collector offices. During the discussions, Singh addressed the feasibility of mass disarmament, noting that such actions remain difficult under current legal frameworks. He maintained that dialogue and reconciliation are the only viable paths to resolving the regional crisis.

The Chief Minister appealed to community leaders to steer the youth away from violence and toward peace. Beyond immediate security concerns, he highlighted the government's commitment to long-term stability through job creation and skill development programs. Ethnic violence in the region has resulted in more than 260 deaths since the current wave of unrest began in May 2023.
