Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh wants schools to teach children in their mother tongue up to Class V. He believes this change helps kids learn faster. The Chief Minister spoke at a three-day workshop held at the City Convention Centre in Imphal today.
Organizers titled the event Reforms in School Education of Manipur. Khemchand Singh said the National Education Policy 2020 helps the country reach its Viksit Bharat 2047 goals. He warned that the government cannot fix the system alone. Everyone must work together to make the policy stick. He noted, "Education is one of the most powerful tools to change the world."
The state has faced recent setbacks. Violence near Tronglaobi stalled government offices and schools for nearly a month. Officials cut summer break from three weeks down to one. They also turned Saturdays into work days to catch up on lost time. The state will return to normal weekends once they clear the backlog.
Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel attended the session. He called the policy a engine for national progress. Professor Ganga Prasad Prasain also took the stage. He argued for adding vocational training to the curriculum starting in Class VI. These hands-on lessons aim to help students find jobs later in life.
