Manipur Chief Minister Leads High-Level Strategy Meeting to Curb Drug Trafficking

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh chaired a Narco Coordination Centre meeting at the state secretariat on Tuesday to bolster the government’s ongoing campaign against substance abuse and drug trafficking. The session focused on refining enforcement strategies, improving intelligence sharing, and tightening coordination among various law enforcement and security branches.

The meeting included Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Director General of Police Rajiv Singh, the state Security Adviser, and senior officials from the Assam Rifles, the Border Security Force, and the Central Reserve Police Force. Participants discussed the operational challenges of monitoring the state's 398-km border with Myanmar, an area where unfenced regions and proximity to the Golden Triangle facilitate the illegal movement of heroin and synthetic drugs.

Authorities identified several hurdles, including the use of illicit transit routes for smuggling narcotics and the trafficking of precursor chemicals used in local drug manufacturing. Following the review, the Chief Minister emphasized that the state would continue to prioritize stronger enforcement and public awareness to achieve a safer environment for the youth.

Addressing the participants, the Chief Minister said, "The Government of Manipur remains firmly committed to dismantling drug networks and advancing a drug-free Manipur." The meeting concluded with a pledge to intensify ground-level intelligence efforts and streamline inter-agency operations to disrupt criminal networks operating within the region.
