Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh visited the National Sports University campus at Koutruk in the Imphal West district on Friday to evaluate ongoing infrastructure development. During the visit, the Chief Minister expressed his appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative in establishing India's only dedicated sports university within the state.
Upon his arrival, the Chief Minister was welcomed by Vice-Chancellor Daljit Singh Chaudhary and senior university administration. During an official review meeting held in the academic building, Anirban Roy, Assistant General Manager of the National Building Construction Corporation Limited, provided a detailed status report on the current construction phase. Plans for the site include a multi-purpose sports hall and 60 residential units for faculty members.
To address logistical and utility challenges, the Chief Minister confirmed that construction on the approach road is scheduled to commence next week. Furthermore, he announced the installation of six borewells as a temporary solution to local water shortages and promised to provide additional security personnel if necessary to ensure the project remains on schedule. The university is designed to accommodate approximately 1,300 students, with officials aiming to finalize construction by the end of the year.
The review session was attended by several notable officials, including MLAs Heikham Dingo Singh and Tongbram Robindro Singh, alongside Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh. Following the inspection, the Chief Minister engaged with local residents at the Koutruk Community Hall, where he listened to their concerns and committed to addressing community grievances.
