Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh is advocating for a united state, emphasizing that territorial integrity is the product of collective sacrifices made by all 36 local communities. During a recent event at the Mission Blind School in Tengnoupal, the Chief Minister urged citizens to move past communal divisions and adopt a shared identity similar to the developmental model seen in Singapore.

Addressing the ongoing unrest, the Chief Minister stated that violence fails to provide lasting solutions. He noted that economic stability has suffered significantly due to the conflict, which began in May 2023. While Kuki, Naga, and Meitei populations currently face restrictions on free movement, Khemchand highlighted that some progress toward reconciliation is visible. He pointed to Kuki residents traveling to Imphal for air travel and inter-community meetings as promising developments.

Reflecting on his recent travels to regions like Jiribam, Kangpokpi, and Senapati, the Chief Minister described instances where different ethnic groups are returning home and sharing meals. However, he warned that certain groups with vested interests continue to sabotage progress to maintain the conflict. He asserted that peace relies on public cooperation, adding, “violence can never provide a solution and urged all sections of society to resolve differences through dialogue.”

Despite positive signs, the government remains cautious following recent violence. A blast in Tronglaobi previously resulted in civilian casualties, underscoring the fragility of the peace process. The Chief Minister continues to call for the exposure of those profiting from the instability, urging all communities to safeguard the future for the next generation.
