Imphal: Manipur honored its film industry leaders during the 16th Manipur State Film Awards held at the Palace Auditorium in Imphal. Organized by the Manipur State Film Development Society, the ceremony celebrated the creativity and resilience of regional cinema.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Ngangbam Swarnajit Singh, recognizing his legacy as the state’s first professional cinematic artist. Along with the Chief Minister and other ministers, the Governor distributed accolades across various feature and non-feature film categories.
During the event, Governor Bhalla praised the industry for capturing the unique identity and struggles of the Manipuri people. He encouraged emerging filmmakers to blend innovative cinematic techniques with the preservation of local traditions and values. The ceremony also featured the release of an official award catalogue and a performance of the martial art form Thang-Ta by the Huyen Lallong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh noted that cinema remains a vital force for shaping social values. While acknowledging the industry faces challenges, he urged local creators to pursue broader recognition and pledged government support to help the sector grow beyond state boundaries.
