Imphal: The Manipur government is ramping up security measures and support for farmers across valley and hill regions as the Kharif cultivation season approaches. Officials are taking proactive steps to safeguard cultivators in vulnerable fringe areas following previous reports of attacks on those working in their fields. The initiative aims to enable farmers from the Meitei, Kuki-Zo, and Naga communities to tend to their crops without fear of disruption.
A review meeting held Friday at the Mini Secretariat in Bishnupur addressed the specific security requirements for paddy cultivation along the borders of Bishnupur and Churachandpur. Chaired by Inspector General of Police Ningshen Worngam, the session included district commissioners and military commanders. Participants identified specific zones requiring extra protection and coordinated deployment strategies to ensure agricultural continuity through the monsoon months.
Beyond security, officials reviewed the progress of rehabilitation for families displaced by ethnic violence. The resettlement of these residents remains a primary focus alongside the effort to maintain stable law and order. Authorities emphasized that close cooperation between civil and security officials is essential to handle the challenges of the current situation. The Kharif season is vital for the state, as the majority of crops rely on the rainfall patterns that occur between June and October.
