Manipur BJP Marks Samvidhan Hatya Diwas as CM Calls for Peace

Imphal: Manipur BJP members gathered at the party state headquarters to mark Samvidhan Hatya Diwas. This event honored the 51st anniversary of the 1975 Emergency. Speakers slammed the former Congress government for authoritarian tactics and the stifling of civil liberties. They honored activists who faced jail time during that era for challenging the state.

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh headlined the ceremony. He connected the party's rise to a public refusal to accept such heavy-handed rule. He insisted that the voter remains the ultimate authority in the nation.

The Chief Minister shifted focus to Manipur's internal strife. He pointed to Jiribam district as a beacon of progress where Hmar, Paite, Meitei, Kuki, and Naga residents now coexist. Displaced families have moved home. Khemchand called the ongoing tensions unfortunate and urged all sides to talk. He specifically asked the Meitei community to step up, saying they should act as a "big brother" in promoting reconciliation and mutual understanding.

Khemchand linked future growth directly to stability. He noted that the return of a popular government after President's Rule has cleared the way to restart stagnant projects. He promised a major development initiative backed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming to Jiribam soon. Officials aim to turn the district into a commercial powerhouse for the state.
