Guwahati: Kokrajhar police have arrested a man accused of orchestrating a large fraud involving forged official documents from the Bodoland Territorial Council. The suspect, identified as Rajiv Kumar Brahma, allegedly attempted to secure government supply contracts totaling 30 crore rupees by using the falsified signatures of senior council leaders.
Authorities allege that Brahma targeted the WPT and BC Department, led by Chief Hagrama Mohilary, for 20 crore rupees in contracts. An additional 10 crore rupees was allegedly sought from the Social Welfare Department, which is overseen by Executive Member Prakash Basumatary. The scheme relied on the unauthorized use of official letterheads and fake signatures to finalize the fraudulent requests.
The investigation began after Prakash Basumatary filed a formal complaint regarding the misuse of his credentials. In response to the breach, Basumatary demanded immediate legal action against the perpetrators. He stated, "Attempts to misuse the names and official authority of elected representatives for personal gain would not be tolerated."
Police are currently working to determine the full scope of the operation and whether other individuals played a role in the forgery racket. The investigation remains ongoing as officers seek to uncover the extent of the attempted fraud.
