Agartala: Vigilant locals stopped a Bolero carrying Rs 10 lakh worth of illegal liquor on Monday night. The vehicle, registration TR 05 G 1926, hit the Laljuri checkpost in North Tripura at 10 p.m. It was heading toward Kanchanpur. The driver floored it to bypass the naka point but local youths forced the truck to a stop. He bailed out and ran away.

The Kanchanpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer confirmed the haul. Police had intelligence about the shipment before the stop. "He further revealed that police had prior intelligence about the vehicle transporting liquor, raising questions about how such a large consignment managed to evade the naka checkpost initially."

The Laljuri outpost took the vehicle into custody. Officers are hunting for the missing driver now. Residents are calling for a neutral investigation into the smuggling ring. Outpost OC Harendra Debbarma did not return calls for comment. Authorities are currently working to break the network behind this operation.
